Brief description of the Partner 

MEYER WERFT (MW) based in Papenburg was founded in 1795 and is in its seventh generation of family ownership. Bernard Meyer, Dr. Jan Meyer, Tim Meyer and Thomas Weigend are managing directors of the company. MEYER WERFT has achieved an excellent worldwide reputation in recent decades for constructing and building special-purpose ships. The company is especially well-known due to the construction of large, modern and sophisticated cruise ships. Over the years the shipyard has built 46 luxury liners for discerning customers from all over the world.

MEYER WERFT offers its customers car and passenger ferries, RoRo ships as well as LPG tankers have been successfully built in Papenburg for decades. MEYER WERFT’s affiliated company, NEPTUN WERFT GmbH & Co. KG in Rostock, builds river cruise liners and supplements the range of ships. The construction of gas tankers rounds off the portfolio.

Today MEYER WERFT has more than 3,450 employees and is one of the most important employers in the region. The family-owned company also provides professional training for about 250 apprentices in nine different professions. The workload will keep the company busy well into the year 2023.

Role in the Project

In NAUTILUS project, MW leads WP4 (Ship Integration), focusing on development of system and integration on board of both small expedition cruise ships and large destination ones. Thanks to its expertise in a construction of a low-emission LNG propulsion systems, MW is involved in WP2, WP3 and WP6.
